Former Grayson deputy indicted for sexual battery, rape

INDEPENDENCE — A former Grayson County deputy sheriff was indicted on 14 sex-related charges last Friday by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury. Shane Alan Widner, 33, was a sergeant when he was fired Jan. 13 by the sheriff's department. He has been held in the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin since his arrest. Widner was indicted on two counts of rape, four counts of aggravated sexual battery, four counts of animate object sexual penetration, three counts of indecent liberties and one count of attempted inanimate object sexual penetration.
