Does it Work? The Snuggie

This is the inauguration of a new column called "Does it Work?" where we talk about products that are widely advertised and hyped, and whether they work as described. Today we'll hear about "The Snuggie," the fleecy robe-like thing that's designed to keep you warm while you are lounging around. Available in a variety colors and sizes (including one for your DOG!), the snuggie has been hyped to death on TV for several years. According to several articles, there are some complaints about these "backwards robes" (as one fellow refers to them). They don't cover your back side when you walk, and for many people the sleeves and the Snuggie are too long. But the biggest complaint seems to come with laundering them: the fleece sheds with each washing and drying, losing as much as a baggie full of lint each time. It would only be a matter of a season's use to end up with a threadbare Snuggie...
